This log cabin was built by Swedish emigrants Frank and Augusta Sjoholm in the mid 1870's on their farm eight miles southeast of Blue Rapids. Hewn logs of oak were used in the 12 X 26 foot cabin. The lengthwise logs were spliced by being shaped to a point and "veed" into the next log and pinned with wooden pegs. The door frames are walnut. Originally the cabin had two rooms and a loft, which was used for sleeping. Six of the family's eight children were born in the cabin. The Sjoholms changed their name to Holm because people had difficulty pronouncing the Swedish name. Descendants of the family still live in Marshall County. The cabin was moved into Blue Rapids in 1996 and is a historic preservation project sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
