The SS Mary 1893-1906. A wooden vessel, steam propelled, gross tonnage 174 & horsepower 216,owned and piloted by Captain John W. Hatch. One summer night after completing her run to Ogdensburg, she was moored behind the home of John & Hattie Hatch in Waddington. Her steam engine exploded and she was hopelessly lost to fire and sank. She was uncovered a half century later during the Seaway Project. This memorial is dedicated to the Hatch family who settled in Waddington, NY in 1831HM Number | HM1I72 |
