The United Brethren in Christ started preaching in this village in 1858. The first church, named Bethel, was organized and built in 1874. Through denominational mergers, it has served as: United Brethren in Christ, Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist. In 1972, the Holsopple and Livingston Congregations united to be renamed Bethel.
