The battery moved from the Dyer field at midnight and came into position on this ground about 9 a.m. in center of brigade front line, and was in this position when the Confederate advance took place about 11 a.m. The enemy getting very near, the pieces were fired double shotted with canister, checking him till four pieces were run to the rear 50 yards. Three pieces were abandoned and three were limbered up and moved to the hill in the northwest end of Dyer farm with the reserve artillery. The enemy pressing hard on front and right flank of this position, two more pieces were abandoned, and the remainder of the battery moved to the rear on the McFarland's Gap road. Casualties: 1 officer and 6 men wounded; 4 men missing; guns lost 5; limbers 4; horses killed 35.
