Phase I March - June, 1943

The 81st Infantry Division (Red) was captured in western White County in the enveloping movement by the Fifth Armored Division (Blue). The 81st was dug in along a ridge between Peeled Chestnut and Cassville along State Highway 26 near here. Blues divided and moved in pincers eastward from Smithville north and south of the highway. This was the first time an entire division had been captured in the maneuvers, the largest war games ever conducted.
