August BARTHOLDI (1834 - 1904)

À l'occasion de l'exposition universelle de 1900, le sculpteur August BARTHOLDI a offert au musée du Luxembourg le modèle en bronze qui lui servit à réaliser la statue de la Liberté de New York. Cette statue a été placée en 1906 dans le Jardin du Luxembourg.

Elle en été retirée en 2012 pour des raisons de conservation et remplacée par une réplique en bronze.

Liberty Enlightening the World
August BARTHOLDI (1834 - 1904)

On the occasion of the 1900 Worlds Fair, the sculptor August BARTHOLDI offered to the Luxembourg Museum the bronze model that he used to construct the Statue of Liberty in New York. In 1906, the statue was placed in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

The original statue was withdrawn in 2012 for conservation reasons and replaced by this bronze replica.
