This Brigade advanced about 9 a.m. on the left of Wood's Division from its bivouac west of Dyer's and formed on the right of Brannan's Division near Poe's. Moving to the left with Wood's Division it was dispatched to the left of Baird's line north of the Kelly field where about noon it entered the general action on this ground. It was hotly engaged for over an hour, advancing beyond the Alexander Bridge road. Shortly before sundown it was heavily attacked and retired fighting to the forest west of the LaFayette road, and thence withdrew with the army to Rossville.

The Battery while following the Brigade into action, was ordered back to the high ground on the west side of the Dyer field where five of its guns were captured by Bushrod Johnson's Division. Strength in action September 19th, officers and men 1223; loss, killed, wounded and missing, 163. Strength in action September 20th, 1000 officers and men; loss, killed, wounded and missing, 136. Percentage of loss 24.53.
