Inscription
Site of the Baton Rouge College 1838-44, and the Louisiana Institute for the Deaf and Blind 1852-72. A five-story brick building completed in 1858 was used as a general hospital during the Union occupation of the city. It housed the Louisiana State University 1869-86, and became the home of the Louisiana School for the Deaf.
