Capital-Hartford

Dutch residents from New Amsterdam established a trading post near present-day Hartford in 1633, but it was the English from the Massachusetts Bay Colony who made the initial move to colonize the area. In 1639 the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut were adapted, a document that gave more governmental power to the people. King Charles II granted a charter to Connecticut in 1662.

1614-Explored by Adriaen Block for the Dutch 1634-5-Permanently settled by the English 1788-Admitted to the Union as the 5th state.
