Bishop FC Barnes founded and established the Red Budd Holy Church in May of 1959 in Castalia, NC. He pastored Red Budd for over 52 years. Bishop Barnes was not only an awesome pastor, teacher and preacher, but he was also a renowned gospel singer. he wrote and recorded the still popular Rough Side of the Mountain, which remained #1 on the billboard charts for over a year. Bishop Barnes was not the most educated or sought after man, but he was a man of God, filled with wisdom, who led by example. perhaps his epitaph should read..."for we are laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. according to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. but let every man take heed how he buildeth the thereupon."(I Corinthians 3:9-10)
