This Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel John Messer commanding, became engaged near this position about 2:30 p.m. September 19th, 1863, the engagement continued until after 5:00 p.m. with varying fortune, our lines alternately receding and advancing.

September 20th, 1863, it became engaged about 11:00 a.m. but after firing half a dozen rounds was flanked by the break occasioned by the movement of Wood's Division to the left, and was broken and compelled to retreat.

Loss, Killed 13: Wounded 83: Captured or Missing 51.
