In World War II his "Operation Mallory," a tactical plan for which he received the Legion of Merit, contributed to the success of the Italian Campaign. He loyally served the College for seventeen years, giving unselfishly of his time and talent as advisor on athletics, member of the board of directors, and treasurer. He was a man of honor, characterized by modesty, kindness, a wholesome sense of humor, and charm of personality.
