"Keep Rolling"
Charles Posey III of Magee, Mississippi, joined the Army in October 2004. Assigned to Co. C, 1/36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Specialist (SPC) Posey was on a Route Clearance Patrol in August, 2006, near Ramadi, Iraq. The mission was to locate and destroy Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Suddenly, several hours into the patrol, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) with SPC Posey as the gunner, was jolted as a mine exploded under the rear right track, throwing the 30+ ton BFV to the left. The noise was deafening inside the vehicle, and the BFV filled with smoke. SPC Posey recalled the patrol continued to move forward since the damage was not serious. Further down the road, another vehicle on the patrol, an Abrams Tank, hit a mine and was severely damaged and disabled. As the tank driver exited the vehicle to inspect the damage, he was shot by a sniper. in rapid response, SPC Posey and the rest of the patrol engaged, destroying the house concealing the enemy, and providing security during the medical evacuation of the wounded driver and until U.S. forces recovered the tank.HM Number | HM1YNZ |
