A Springboard for Invasion
Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee arrived on this hill late on the morning of August 29, 1862, to lead his reunited army in the Second Battle of Manassas. By the campaign's conclusion, he emerged victorious and seized the opportunity to lead his men on their first invasion into the North. An exhibit kiosk on the crest of Stuart's Hill highlights Confederate activity here. To begin your tour of the Second Manassas Battlefield, drive one-half mile north to the Brawner Farm, the scene of the opening action on the battle on Agust 28, 1862.HM Number | HM21SB |
