The smokehouse originally stood on the Wharton Place three miles Southeast of Lebanon on Sparta Pike. Jesse Wharton of Davidson County bought the 912 acre farmland in 1811 from John Gray Blount of North Carolina. Jesse deeded the farm to his son, Joseph Philips Wharton, after his marriage to Caroline Hewitt in September, 1830. The smokehouse dates back to this time.
Joseph Wharton's daughter married a Peyton and later named the farm Peyton Place.
The smokehouse was moved to Fiddlers Grove in 1994.
Donated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haskin and family
