At this location, then known as the Union Hotel, a group of some 90 state licensed bay pilots met in the hotel lobby to form the Association of Maryland Pilots. Captain Henry Vaughan was elected as their first president. Several rooms of the second floor were rented and became the office of the association for the next 35 years.
