This archaeological site contains several residential and food storage features, and was first occupied on a temporary basis during the early 1800s. Fishing and collecting marine resources was the primary economic activity for residents of this site. The food resources collected were used for both subsistence and trade. Fish were dried and exchanged for agricultural resources available from upland inhabitants. Dwellings at this site were constructed by first clearing an area in the lava and then stacking rocks to create curved walls. An upper pole and thatch structure was typically placed on the rock walls as a roof. Fresh water for drinking was available in a nearby cave. This water source and easy coastal access were the likely factors considered when picking this as a residential location.
