This was the home of John & Samantha Baumgartner. John came to America from Bavaria. The beauty of this house is in its architecture, "Rundbogenstil", or "Round arched windows". The style was popular in Germany between 1840 and 1850. German immigrants who came to America in the 1850's copied the style here.

"Rundbogenstil" architecture requires that the house be brick and square or almost square. The windows must be round-arched with corbeling around the windows.

Because of the briefness of the historical period, the style is very special and very rare. There are very few houses in Michigan of this style.
