In 1836, George Sand found refuge in this house during her trial separation from her husband, Baron Casimir Dudevant.

On May 25, 1836, she wrote to her friend, Marie D'Agoult: "a garden of four square toises (a toise = ~2 yards or 1.95m), full of roses and a terrace spacious enough to take ten steps in length, serves me as a living room and study ... I am writing a new volume of Lélia". (Marker Number 9.)
