Lycoming College is a private, undergraduate college of the liberal arts and sciences. It is one of the fifty oldest colleges and universities in the country and holds the distinction of being co-educational since its founding in 1812. Begun as the Williamsport Academy, it moved to this site in 1848 when purchased by the Methodists and renamed the Williamsport Dickinson Seminary. Later it was the first private junior college in the state before becoming a four-year institution of higher learning.
