The Riverside Cemetery (now known as the Halsey Cemetery) was established in 1885. The people of Long Eddy worked together to clear the land to create a community cemetery. (Much later, the adjacent St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery was established.) The land and the small, wooden chapel were donated by the Halsey family. The chapel was designed to reflect the architecture of the Halsey family cottages in Long Eddy. Many of the tombstones in this cemetery came from local bluestone quarries.
