This monument is dedicated to a large group of
men that was formed here. These men were
common men with an uncommon valor in war
they fought for their homes, families and a
constitutional government most were early
settlers of Greene County. These men were known
as Confederate soldiers. One of the largest
groups of soldiers formed was the 24th Mississippi
Infantry, Company A. These men left Greene
County under the command of Captain Henry
Roberts and was known as the Gaines Warriors.

We would like to honor every Greene County
veteran of the civil war by placing their name
on this monument.
