Sept. 19, 1963, 3:30 pm, 2nd Position.

17th Tennessee, - Lieutenant Colonel Watt W. Floyd.
23d Tennessee, - Colonel R. H. Keeble.
25th Tennessee, - Lieutenant Colonel R. B. Snowden.
44th Tennessee, - Lieutenant Colonel John L. McEwen, Jr.
44th Tennessee, - Major G. M. Crawford.
York's Georgia Battery, - Lieutenant William S. Everett.

Soon after 3 P.M. this brigade crossed the Lafayette road, and, swinging toward the north, attacked the right flank of VanCleve's division, then rallying on the ridge south of the Brotherton house and west of the road, causing it to retire, abandoning two guns. While thus engaged, two regiments of Hacker's Union brigade came up the Lafayette road from Viniard's, gained the immediate rear of Johnson's brigade and opened fire upon it. This caused the hasty withdrawal of Johnson's line to the forest east of the road.
