Une Promenade à fleur d'eau / A Walk on the Water

Avant les années 1950, c'est sur le rivage que l'on marchait, deux mètres plus bas!
Débarquée vraisemblablement en ce lieu au printemps 1648, la famille du seigneur François de Chavigny et d'Éléonore de Grandmaison s'installa sur la hauteur voisine (l'actuel manoir Gourdeau).
Jusqu'à la construction d'un quai en 1855 au sud de la pointe, des embarcations à fond plat profitaient du baissant de la marée pour se déposer sur le fond rocheux. Puis, transbordé dans des tombereaux, leur chargement approvisionnait les habitants de l'île.

Before the 1950s, the shore that we walked was two meters lower!
The family of Lord François de Chavigny and Eleonore de Grandmaison probably landed here in the spring of 1648 and settled on the nearby height (the current Gourdeau mansion).
Until the construction of a wharf in 1855 south of the point, flat-bottomed boats took advantage of the lower tide to settle on the rocky bottom. Then, transshipped in dumpers, their



cargo supplied the inhabitants of the island.
