National Historic Landmark
—1832-1857 —
The 1803 Louisiana Purchase expanded the United States westward. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and The Corps of Discovery explored the nation's vast new territory on their 1804-1806 journeys. They found an abundance of beaver, buffalo, and other animals along the Upper Missouri River. Fur traders quickly moved in to harvest the bounty.HM Number | HM2C4L |
