This illustration pays tribute to the only father/son Triple Crown Winners, Gallant Fox (1930) and Omaha (1935). These thoroughbred horses were trained by Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons at William Woodward Sr.'s Belair Stud Farm located in Bowie, Maryland. In order to declare a Triple Crown Winner a horse must win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. Gallant Fox is the only Triple Crown Winner (Earl Sande, jockey) to sire a Triple Crown Winner (Omaha, William Smokey Saunders, jockey).
