On this site in 1947, pioneer Veutura
merchant Jack Rose built what was said to be the
largest and most contemporary women's apparel
store on the Pacific Coast. Designed by renowned
architect Arthur Froehlich, the distinctive 36,000
square foot Streamline Moderne style building had
something for women or all ages: Clothing, shoes,
jewelry, furs and a beauty salon. The grand central
staircase was the scene of many elegant fashion shows.
Jack Rose, who opened his first store in the
Arcade Building on Main Street to 1925, was the first to offer Ventura County women fashionable styles "off the rack."
