This panoramic image combines two photographs that show the kitchen garden and barnyard as they looked about 1900. Both photographs were taken from a location out in the field behind you (south) looking north. From the far right in the photograph, the buildings depicted include the 1899 dairy barn with older barns and sheds attached on the west side. In the right foreground, is a small building that may have originally been a coachman's dwelling, but by this time served as a garden or tool shed. The farm stable with attached sheds and wagon house is visible behind the large elm tree. Today, the farm complex is much changed from Church's time; many of the outbuildings and sheds were removed when farming was discontinued. On the far left is the pump house, where steam engines pumped water from the lake to the house.
Photo Inset: Charles Frier, the gardener seen in the photograph, later worked as coachman/chauffeur. (Note the mingled row of flowers and vegetables in the garden).
