This monument was erected in 2011 to commemorate the 150th anniversary or the start of the Civil War, April 12th, 1861. More than 620,000 soldiers died by the end of the war in 1865, making it the bloodiest conflict ever engaged by the United States of America. 78 soldiers from Marilla fought in the Civil War; 12 of those died during the conflict.
