Carbondale's UFO
On November 9, 1974, at approximately 1900 hours,
three Carbondale teenage boys reported to Carbondale
Police that they had observed a glowing airborne object,
traveling east to west rapidly. It descend[ed] and crashed into
a silt pond in the Russell Park area in Carbondale. A
crowd of 1,500 people quickly went to the crash site,
where planes and helicopters were flying low overhead.
The Carbondale's UFO has been the subject of many
studies and investigations by a wide range of Government
Officials. An excellent summary report, titled "The
Carbondale UFO Crash—the Reality, the Hoaxes and the
Legend" by Matthew Graeber, was published in May 2004
in the Ohio UFO Notebook, Special Limited Edition
Report, Number 139, by the Mutual UFO Network of Ohio,
Inc., Columbus, OH 43214.
