          In order to express forever the appreciation of the Japanese people of the service done by the late Thomas Alva Edison for the welfare of mankind, we respectfully present herewith a stone lantern as a memorial gift to his tomb.       February 11th, , 1935.

< Second Marker : >This stone lantern is an exact reproduction of one of the national treasures of Japan, called Yunoki, now standing in the shrine of Nara City, which is a product of the Heiancho Period (794-1192 A.D.) and considered to be the oldest and most excellent type of the many found in Japan.
