— Celebrating 125 Years of Pure Wholesome Water 1876-2001 —

This plaque is dedicated to the original founders
of the Rochester Water Works, and the hundreds
of succeeding Water Bureau employees who have
carried on the design, construction, operation,
and maintenance of the City''s water supply system,
thereby assuring health and prosperity for our great
city.
Special acknowledgment:
J. Nelson Tubbs (1848-1922); Chief Engineer charged
in 1872 with the selection of a water source and
subsequent construction of the Hemlock Water System.
