Born June 1822 in Kanawha County, Fry served as a lieutenant in the Mexican War and moved to Alabama prior to the Civil War. Appointed colonel of the 13th Alabama, he was wounded at Seven Pines, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. Wounded and captured in Pickett's charge at Gettysburg, he was released in 1864 and promoted to general. Died in 1891 and buried in Montgomery, AL.
