Welcome to #5 Radar Unit. RCAF Queensport / Cole Harbour.
Bienvenue à Ja Sieme unité de radar deP'ARC, située à Queensport / Cole Harbour.
This base, along with ten others situated along the rocky shores of Nova Scotia,
Was tasked with detecting surface ships and aircraft approaching from the sea.
During WWII enemy submarines were lurking off the mouth of Halifax Harbour and had
already sunk numerous ships in Canadian waters.
Cette base, comme dix autres situées le long des rives rocailleuses de la Nouvelle-Écosse,,
fut mandatée de détecter 1es bateaux et avions approchant au large. Durant la deuxième
guerre mondaile, des sous-marins ennemis étaient aux aguets a l'embouchure du port
d'Halifax etavaient déja coulé plusieurs bateaux.

In May of 1942, Storm Construction Company arrived on scene. Within three months
these skilled workers erected a radar base between the Villages of Queensport and
Cole Harbour. In August a party of four RCAF radar technicians under the command of
Pilot Officer J.A.J. Musselman arrived and installed the highly classified radar equipment.
En mai 1942, la compagnie Storm Contsruction arriva sur le site.
En moins de trois mois ces travaileurs érigerent une base de radar entre les villages
de Queensport et Cole Harbour. En aout, un groupe de quatre techniciens de radar de l'ARC
sous le commandedment de l'officier-pilote J.A.J. Musselman arriva et installa l'équipement
de radar.

Also arriving in August was the first Commanding Officer in the person of Flight Lieutenant
C.H. Jones who, along with the Station complement, brought the radar unit to operational
readiness in September of the same year high on the Barrens of Guysborough County

qui, avec ses hommes, rendi la station de radar opérationelle en septembre de la même
année sur les côtes du comté de Guysboruogh.

Although the station was designed to be operated by a complement of 36 airmen
it was estimated one hundred (180) Officers and Men served here over a three-year period
and two lost their lives.

Flight Lieutenant L.B. Monasch, the last Commanding Officer
officially closed # 5 Radar Unit RCAF Station Queensport/Cole Harbour on 20 June, 1945.
