One of the 'All-Time Great' Gaelic football stars
and a member of Kerry's 'Golden Era Team'
of the 1970s and 80s. John played for Sneem Gaa club
and following retirement from Kerry,
for Bishopstown in Cork where he worked.
He grew up in Tahilla, four miles east of Sneem.
John won six 'All-Ireland' medals and five 'All-Star' awards,
among a host of others, in a twelve
year career with Kerry between 1972 and 1984.
A garda by profession, John was married to
Mary (O'Halloran) of Abbeydorney and was father to
Máirín and to John Jnr., an Irish international soccer player.
