This property was settled in 1836 by the Jesse Barnes Family. It was one of the first stops out of Independence on the Santa Fe, California and Oregon Trails. The travelers'diaries, letters and memoirs often make note of their overnight camping or securing lodging in the Barnes home. Today the site is known as Cave Spring.
