Cornerstone, 1754

Cornerstone from Amesbury Furnace, Clinton Township. The Amesbury Furnace, built by Union Iron Works, was situated off Herman Thau Road on the bank of Beaver Brook. It processed iron ore from nearby mines into cast iron. The cast iron was then sent off to be forged into household goods and ammunition, probably used in the French and Indian War and the Revolution.
