Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, the Overstreet School Historic District is representative of Starkville's development from 1870 to 1940. The focal point of the district is the Overstreet Elementary School, originally built as Starkville's public school in 1897. The neighborhood, composed of 180 buildings, features a wide variety of residential architectural styles, including Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, Victorian Vernacular and Craftsman.
