Once the hay was collected from the fields it has to be stored, either in a hay stack or barn. This was accomplished using a device known as a Jackson Fork. Used in combination with a complex set of lines and pulleys, the hay was lifted into the hayloft of a barn or into a hay stack. If stacked outside, the Jackson Fork was used in combination with a derrick. The Jackson Fork displayed above came from the Cherry Creek Ranch were it was apparently used to lift hay into a hay stack.
