David Jackson was a famous Rocky Mountain fur trader, explorer, businessperson, and namesake for Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the Teton region. During the War of 1812, he served as an Ensign in Ohio. In January 1837 Jackson traveled to Paris, Tennessee, on business where he contracted typhoid fever. Dr. Porter attended to him while he resided at Atkins Tavern in Paris. Jackson died on December 24, 1837. Sympathetic Paris Masons buried Jackson, himself a Mason, in the Paris City Cemetery.
