Morristown National Historical Park

Between here and the British army in New York City lay a land of divided loyalty. Washington kept several brigades patrolling out there "on the line." The soldiers never knew who was Patriot and who was Tory. And mistakes could be fatal.

The Watchung Mountains took no sides but divided the armies from one another - them from us and us from them. Patrolling "on the line" meant patrolling the Watchung Mountains - mostly.
