Arrived Port Royal (Beaufort) 1666 withRobert Sanford's Expedition exploringthe area. He remained with Indians andlearned their language. Captured by Spanish, he escaped; later returned guiding the Port Royal Colony. On hisadvice the colony moved to AlbemarlePoint (Charles Towne) 1670, where hisfriendly Indian trade contributed to itspermanency. He has illustrious descendants.
