Organized 1823 by Rev. James Hillhouseof South Carolina, withPatrick Norris and William Hillhouse,veterans of American Revolution,as founding elders.

Original wooden structure replacedby brick building in 1841under pastorate ofRev. Thomas Sydenham Witherspoon.

Present building erected in 1859 whenRev. J. C. Mitchell was pastor.
