To the memory
of the men of Greensboro and Guilford County,
who fought for North Carolina and the Confederacy
in the War for Southern Independence.
1861 ? ? - ? ? 1865

These while in the prime of life,
fought, bled and died;
walking in the steps of Father
Abraham (Gen. 14:13-14)
in behalf of a lost cause.

While some of these in our church-
yards sleep,
others fill an unknown grave;
whether unknown or known to fame
their cause and country still the
same.
They died and wore the gray.
