In honor of the men of the Army 1st Engineer Special Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, VII Corps Headquarters, and Navy 11th Amphibious Force Convoy T-4, who suffered and perished on April 28, 1944. While conducting "Exercise Tiger" at Slapton Sands, Torcross, England, a fierce encounter with German torpedo boats took 539 American lives. Lessons learned that day enhanced readiness for the D-Day landings at Normandy, France. A grateful nation remembers their courage, sacrifices and contributions to the Allied cause in World War II.
