Thomas Barksdale Hutcheson lived in the dairy barn atVirginia Agricultural and Mechanical College andPolytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech), working his waythrough college by milking cows. Widely known laterfor his agricultural research and writing, he and hisbrother, John, helped develop Virginia's livestock,poultry, and dairy industries and moved the state froma tobacco and cotton economy into a sounderdiversified agriculture.
