In 1898, Edward Haas built this four story warehouse to house his wholesale grocery. The warehouse has an electric belt driven elevator and automatic sprinkler system. His business was the center for the entire region for canning and shipping. The Victorian Romanesque Style, the granite columns, and the distinctive mix of stone and brick truly make the building remarkable. The main interior supports are of massive cypress beams and have been left visible after the renovation. The grocery was liquidated in the early 1940's and used for a brief time by the Corp[s of] Engineers before they opened Camp Crowder. In 1942 Phil Ratliff opened a feed service. This business operated until 1995.
