Inscription
The Virginia and Truckee RR was built to carry Comstock ore to the Carson River mills and to haul supplies back to the mines here. Service to Gold Hill began in December 1869 and to Virginia City in 1870. Once handling 30 to 45 trains a day, the line closed down in 1939.
