To the south at Craig's (Dunn's) Meadow, is thelikely site of the Washington County militia'smuster ground for the Revolutionary War's KingsMountain Campaign. In Sept. 1780, under the com-mand of Col. William Campbell the militiamen leftfor Sycamore Shoals, near Elizabethton, Tenn.By 25 Sept., the militia rendezvoused withadditional Washington County militiamen andforces from present-day Tennessee and NorthCarolina and then headed south. On 7 Oct. 1780these forces with additional troops from SouthCarolina and Georgia defeated British Maj. PatrickFerguson's soldiers at the Battle of KingsMountain in South Carolina. The nearby mustersite is certified as part of the OvermountainVictory National Historic Trail.
