This wall is a partial reconstruction of the wall erected by British forces during their occupation of Camden in 1780 - 81. The log wall completely surrounded the central portion of the town, which was located along both sides of Broad Street and consisted of about 80 structures. It served as the inner defense line of the fortified town and was destroyed when the British evacuated Camden. Archaeological excavations here in 1970 produced a variety of military artifacts some of which are on exhibit at Historic Camden, and resulted in the reconstruction of the defense wall.
